Happy Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for “fifth of May” and is a regional holiday originating in the Mexican state of Puebla.  It is a celebration of the Mexican army’s surprising defeat of the larger French army at the battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.

1895 was the earliest reference to Cinco de Mayo noted in today’s LA Times:  http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedailymirror/2008/05/cinco-de-mayo.html

Wishing everyone an enjoyable and safe Cinco de Mayo.
