A distracted trucker plowed into stopped traffic causing a 10-car pileup killing two women. In California a car rammed another incinerating one motorist and sending the driver to jail for manslaughter. The most dangerous thing you can do behind the wheel is receiving and sending text messages yet many otherwise responsible drivers engage in the practice
THE MOST DANGEROUS ADDICTION BEHIND THE WHEEL
It’s addictive. Every time you get a tweet, text, IM or a call, scientists say, your brain squirts out a little dopamine- the pleasure chemical. Left to our physiological response we put ourselves, passengers and other motorists at risk by reacting to these devices.
PROACTIVELY COMMIT TO NOT TEXT WHILE DRIVING
A recent study found drivers 23 times more likely to crash while texting. Merely reaching for a hand-held device increases the risk by about 6 times. In recognition of this danger everyone with an electronic device should proactively rethink the risk these practices expose us to and rethink our commitment to the discipline of NEVER reacting to the sound of an electronic devices until our cars are parked.
