EXPECT A FULL BLUE MOON THIS NEW YEAR’S EVE
The solar calendar contains an excess of eleven days compared to the lunar year. This results in a second full moon in a month every two and a half years. This second full moon is sometimes referred to as a Blue Moon or Harvest Moon.
This year a Blue Moon occurs on New Year’s Eve, an event witnessed only once every 19 years. The last time we experienced a lunar double on New Year’s was 1990. Enjoy the New Year’s Blue Moon because the next one won’t come again until 2028.
And for those with an ear for oldies may recall the Marcel’s hit song “Blue Moon” recorded sometime in back in the 20th century. For music open in new window with a Right Click: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-avJPsuArgsTOAST
TOAST THOSE CHAMPAGNE FLUTES AND CHEER (or howl at) THE FULL MOON
This is not to be confused with the annual Amtrak Moon event hosted by Mugs Away Saloon of Laguna Niguel in the photo below. http://www.moonamtrak.org/
