Today was my first official day at the beach for 2010. The official part is because it was my first trip with beach chair, swim suit and a book. It was somewhat like summer but without the great weather. Click on the photo(s) for a close-up view.
SUMMER BEGINS WHEN THE OCEAN TEMP HITS 70
It’s not summer based on my personal criteria that summer begins when the ocean temperature reaches 70 degrees. That’s about my threshold for actually being able to get in the water passed the lower edge of my swim suit. Above that point is a bit too chilly for my body parts! Seventy-four is even better.
Today the ocean temperature was 64 and the only people in the water were surfers with wetsuits. Even the air temperature was marginally acceptable at 62 degrees.
ONE MONTH TO GO
Last year the ocean reached 70 degrees on May 18, 2009 and didn’t recede below seventy for good until October 9. Hoping 2010 is as good a summer as last year.
SIX DEGREES, SIX POUNDS
Waiting for the ocean to gain six degrees should give me time to lose six pounds. Ten degrees would be better as would ten pounds.
Photos below were taken back on March 07. 2009 from the Huntington Beach Pier. Click on the pics for a blowup close up.
