From the LA Times:
BIG WAVES EXPECTED TO POUND SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BEACHES
April 6, 2011
Waves ranging from 8 to 12 feet high are expected to hammer the Southern California coast beginning Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service said. The powerful breakers are being kicked up by a northwest swell that is expected to increase in strength, creating dangerous conditions at area beaches, the Weather Service said. The agency issued a surf advisory from 3 p.m. Wednesday to 3 p.m. Thursday. The highest surf is expected Wednesday night along west- and northwest-facing beaches.
